Gumlet

Gumlet is the media optimization and delivery platform bootstrapped from Pune, India in 2018 by Aayush Bhatnagar. It provides an image and video CDN that automatically optimizes every image (converts to WebP/AVIF, resizes to the appropriate dimension, compresses without quality loss) and every video (transcodes to HLS adaptive bitrate, generates thumbnails) — served from a globally distributed CDN for fast delivery worldwide. The company grew to $2M+ ARR with a team of 20. Gumlet's developer-friendly API and simple one-line integration (replace your image domain with your Gumlet subdomain, and images are automatically optimized on the fly) made adoption extremely fast. The video hosting module — upload once, get an HLS player with adaptive quality, captions, and chapter markers — turned Gumlet into a lightweight Wistia/Cloudinary alternative for developers who needed media hosting without complexity or enterprise pricing. Being built in India with a globally distributed customer base demonstrated that Indian founders could compete in infrastructure markets dominated by US companies.
