Rustem Mussabekov built Raindrop.io starting around 2013 as a personal tool to organize the web pages, videos, articles, and links he saved daily. The app grew from a basic bookmark manager into a full-featured visual organization tool — with collections, tags, full-text search across all saved content, and beautiful thumbnail previews. Rustem built the iOS app, Android app, browser extensions, and Mac app largely himself. He charged a modest Pro subscription for advanced features while keeping core functionality free. Raindrop became beloved in the productivity and PKM (Personal Knowledge Management) community, praised for its clean design and cross-platform consistency. The app handles millions of bookmarks and is trusted by designers, writers, researchers, and developers worldwide. Rustem continued to develop it solo from Ukraine, adding features like nested collections, highlights, and integrations with Notion and other tools. A remarkable example of a solo developer building a complex, polished cross-platform product for over a decade.
