Rank Math is the WordPress SEO plugin launched by MyThemeShop (India) in 2018 that grew to 3M+ active installs and $5M+ ARR by doing something audacious: giving premium features free that Yoast SEO charged for. Rank Math launched with schema markup, advanced redirection manager, 404 monitoring, local SEO, and rich snippet support all built into the free version — features that required paid Yoast add-ons costing hundreds of dollars per year. The strategy worked brilliantly. WordPress site owners who googled "Yoast SEO alternative" found Rank Math, discovered they could get more features for free, switched, and then recommended it in every WordPress forum and Facebook group. The SEO analytics module (connecting to Google Search Console to show keyword rankings directly in the WordPress dashboard) became the signature feature — it eliminated the need to leave WordPress to check rankings. Revenue comes from Rank Math Pro ($59-199/year) which adds AI-powered content analysis, advanced schema templates, and multi-site management.
