Dmytro Krasun launched ScreenshotOne from Ukraine in 2021 as a headless browser screenshot API. The use case: developers building apps that need to render any URL as a PNG or PDF — link preview cards, website thumbnails, PDF generation, OG image creation. ScreenshotOne provided a simple REST API: send a URL and parameters (viewport, delay, format), get back a screenshot. The developer experience was clean and the documentation was excellent. Dmytro launched and promoted it through developer communities, Twitter, and SEO content targeting "screenshot API" queries. He built in public, sharing MRR milestones and product decisions on Twitter. Revenue grew from $0 to several thousand dollars per month within the first year. Dmytro continued building during the war in Ukraine, adding features like custom CSS injection, cookie handling, and signed URLs for security. A small-scale but highly purposeful solo developer project solving a specific developer infrastructure need, generating steady recurring revenue.
