Weglot

Weglot is the website translation platform Augustin Prot and Rémy Berda bootstrapped from Paris in 2016. It works by injecting a JavaScript snippet on any website — WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, or custom-built — that intercepts page content, sends it through a machine translation API (DeepL + Google Translate), and serves the translated page on a language subdirectory (/fr/, /de/, /es/) with proper hreflang tags for SEO. The translated content is then editable in a visual editor for professional quality. Weglot grew to $5M+ ARR by making multilingual websites accessible to businesses that couldn't afford professional translation for every page. The JavaScript snippet approach means any website can be translated in 5 minutes without developer involvement — which made Weglot the obvious answer to "how do I make my Shopify store multilingual?" in every e-commerce forum and Webflow community. The platform charges by word count and language, creating a natural expansion revenue model as customers add more pages and languages over time.
