Kinsta was founded in 2013 by a Hungarian team led by Peter Simonics with a contrarian bet: WordPress hosting could be done on enterprise-grade infrastructure (Google Cloud) and sold at a premium price to developers and agencies who cared about speed and reliability more than cost. While competitors raced to the bottom on price, Kinsta raced to the top on quality. They built a MyKinsta dashboard that became beloved for its UX, added features like APM monitoring, DevKinsta (local development), and site staging. Growth came through developer word-of-mouth and content marketing — Kinsta's blog became one of the most trafficked WordPress resources on the internet. The company remained 100% bootstrapped while almost every competitor raised VC. By 2024 Kinsta had crossed $21M in annual revenue with 212 employees worldwide.
